Further, nearly half of the undergraduate students in the American higher education system can be categorized as nontraditional. The National Center for Education Statistics shows large increases in the enrollment of students that have typically been characterized as nontraditional because their demographic makeup identifies them as an atypical college student. Yet the message that these students are the outsiders is persistent and causes much psychological distress and self-doubt. Those of us who work in higher education should realize that there no longer is a nontraditional student or, at the very least, we need to revise the definition of what constitutes one. Referring to our students as nontraditional puts them at a starting line behind other college enrollees — not only in their sense of self but also in the minds of fellow students, faculty members, administrators and policy makers. Our institutions, programs and traditions are the problem, not the students. We must do better. The nontraditional narrative is stunningly pervasive in higher education circles. To think about students in any alternate way is to go against the very fabric of the system of education that has been built in our country.
The word yoga was first mentioned in the oldest sacred texts, the Rig Veda. The Vedas were a collection of texts containing songs, mantras and rituals to be used by Brahmans, the Vedic priests. Yoga was slowly refined and developed by the Brahmans and Rishis mystic seers who documented their practices and beliefs in the Upanishads, a huge work containing over scriptures. The Upanishads took the idea of ritual sacrifice from the Vedas and internalized it, teaching the sacrifice of the ego through self-knowledge, action karma yoga and wisdom jnana yoga.

The Dominican Republic became a nation on 27 February when a group of revolutionaries seized power from the Haitian rulers of the island of Hispaniola. A few years later the city of Santo Domingo became the Spanish capital of the New World, and because of its location in the trade winds, it was the gateway to the Caribbean. France gained a foothold on the western end of the island, which became prosperous, and by Spain ceded the entire island to France.
By the black African slaves in the western portion of the island now Haiti rebelled against the French and ruled the entire island. French troops eventually reclaimed the island, but were able to occupy only the western end. In a small group of Spanish-speaking Dominican intellectuals from Santo Domingo organized a secret society called La Trinitaria to overthrow the Haitian rule. The society was established by Juan Pablo Duarte, the son of a wealthy Dominican family.
After the overthrow, Pedro Santana, one of the leaders in the revolution, became the first president of the Dominican Republic. The complex heritage of Arawak, Spanish, African, and French traditions, plus an early independence, set the Dominican Republic apart from other Caribbean islands. Independence was won before slavery was abolished in the Spanish Caribbean and a century before the decolonization of the other islands. The Dominicans consider themselves more Latin American than Caribbean.
In addition, they retain close ties with the United States, which occupied the island in the early twentieth century.

Always in search of the next way to destroy their nature-given beauty, Western females have begun to dye their hair at alarming rates. It has to be stopped. Would you want to tie your fortunes to a woman who will mutilate herself just so strangers will look at her more often? Nobody sits down to their desk, opens up a couple Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, takes a sip of their Americano, and decides to turn their hair neon green.
The girl who makes the split-second decision to destroy her beauty is the same one who will suck multiple cocks in the Cancum foam party, or will give her anal virginity to swarthy European while her loyal boyfriend waits patiently at home; in other words, not the kind of person you want in your life for anything other than a casual and well-documented fling. As much as equalists bleat to the contrary, humans have hard-wired attraction preferences for the physical appearance of their mates.
Perhaps this will lead the way to a victim of domestic violence in a private, non-traditional relationship to come forward with his/her story and seek protection. Lindsay A. Heller is an associate in the firm’s Family Law practice, based in its Morristown, NJ office.

In , Pierre Fauchard, a French surgeon credited as the Father of Modern Dentistry, published his influential book, The Surgeon Dentist, a Treatise on Teeth, which for the first time defined a comprehensive system for caring for and treating teeth. Additionally, Fauchard first introduced the idea of dental fillings and the use of dental prosthesis, and he identified that acids from sugar led to tooth decay.
In , the first dental college Baltimore College of Dental Surgery opened, establishing the need for more oversight. Non-Traditional Families There’s no denying that the concept of family has certainly changed in American society over the last few decades. Statistics continue to show that fewer Americans are getting married, and those who do so are having fewer children or none at all.
More marriages are ending in divorce. More people are living alone, cohabiting with someone, or marrying more than once in a lifetime and creating stepfamilies. In general introductory college courses emphasize teaching and learning by focusing on knowledge, comprehension and application. This most often places students in a passive role regarding their learning. Upper division courses hopefully strive to build on the analysis, synthesis and evaluation levels of learning. These are the characteristics of teaching and learning that most engage the students and faculty because they are “ACTIVE”.
These are the categories that deal with the issues that inspire us to learn and reveal the creative potential within each faculty member and student. It has been Harris and Johnson’s experiences that when introductory courses begin with issues of analysis and synthesis students become engaged in their own learning. During this process students assume responsibility for acquiring the knowledge necessary to respond creatively and evaluate outcomes.
This is the basis for non-traditional teaching and learning strategies regardless of the academic course level.
